Emergency Dentist Cost in San Antonio - $125 Exam and X-Rays, Treatment Quoted in Writing

An emergency dental visit at our Stone Oak office starts with a $125 fee that covers the exam and the diagnostic X-rays. That's the full cost of learning what's wrong. Should treatment be needed, our dentist writes the price down and hands it to you before anything starts. Call (210) 807-8793 for a same-day time, seven days a week.

The $125 covers the emergency exam and diagnostic X-rays. Any treatment is a separate fee, quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

What the $125 emergency exam covers in San Antonio

The $125 pays for two things: the dentist's examination of the tooth and the gum and bone around it, and the X-rays needed to see what the eye can't. A cracked root, an abscess forming at the tip of a tooth, a wisdom tooth pressing on the one beside it: none of that shows up without a picture. The X-rays are part of the fee, not an add-on.

The exam ends with a diagnosis in plain words: what the problem is, what the choices are for fixing it, and what each choice costs. If nothing needs doing today, you pay the $125 and go home knowing that. Saturday, Sunday, 7pm on a Tuesday, walk-in or booked ahead: the fee doesn't move.

How you get a written price before treatment starts

The process works in the same order for every patient.

  1. Exam and X-rays. Our dentist looks at the tooth, asks what happened and when the pain started, and takes the X-rays.
  2. Diagnosis. The dentist walks you through the X-ray image and explains what it means for the tooth. If there's more than one reasonable way to handle it, you hear about each one.
  3. Written price. Before any treatment begins, you get the fee for that treatment in writing. You read it. You ask questions. You decide.
  4. Treatment, usually the same day. Once you say yes, the work is done in our office, often in the same visit.

If the dentist finds something during the work that would change the plan, the work pauses and you get a new written number before it continues.

Why we don't post treatment prices online

The word "extraction" covers a baby tooth that's barely hanging on and a wisdom tooth that's sitting sideways under the bone. Those are not the same job, and they don't carry the same fee. Posting a single number for each service would mislead you one way or the other.

So instead of guessing, we look first. Our extraction page and our root canal page describe what each procedure involves so you know what to expect from the visit.

Insurance: cash and most major PPO plans

Cash patients and patients with most major PPO dental plans are both welcome. Bring the insurance card and a photo ID with you. Not sure if your plan counts as a PPO? Look at the card; it's usually printed right there.

Our office doesn't take Medicaid or HMO dental plans. Patients with those plans are welcome to be seen as cash patients and pay the same $125 exam fee as everyone else.

We don't promise what your plan will pay toward a given treatment. Plans differ in their deductibles, annual limits and waiting periods, and the written price you receive from us is our fee for the procedure. What your plan covers of that fee is a question for your plan.

How to pay: cash and cards

We take cash and major credit and debit cards. The $125 exam fee is due at the visit, and treatment fees are due once the treatment is finished. There are no other arrangements. A tooth seen early is often a smaller fix than the same tooth seen three weeks later; our toothache relief page explains why.

Emergency dental costs for north San Antonio patients

Our office is on Hardy Oak Blvd in Stone Oak, near Loop 1604 and US 281, with parking on site. Patients from Hollywood Park, Castle Hills and the rest of the north side pay the same $125 exam fee and get the same written price. The FAQ page answers more questions about hours, walk-ins and what counts as an emergency.

Frequently asked questions

Is the $125 the whole cost of my visit?

The $125 is the whole cost of the exam and X-rays. If the dentist finds that a treatment is needed, that treatment carries its own fee, which you'll see in writing before anything starts. If no treatment is needed, or you decide to wait, $125 is all you pay that day.

Will you quote an extraction or a root canal by phone?

Not honestly. Any number given over the phone would be a guess. The fee turns on what the X-ray reveals: how many roots, how the tooth sits in the bone, whether there's infection. We can tell you the exam is $125 and that the treatment price will be in writing before you decide.

Do you accept my PPO plan?

Most major PPO dental plans, yes. Call (210) 807-8793 with the name of your plan and we'll tell you whether it's one we work with. Bring the card to your visit either way. HMO and Medicaid plans are not accepted, but patients with those plans can be seen as cash patients.

When do I pay, before the exam or after?

The $125 exam fee is paid at check-in, at the start of the visit. Treatment fees come due when the treatment is done, after you've read and agreed to the written price. Cash and major credit or debit cards are both fine.

What if I need treatment but can't pay for all of it today?

You can have the exam, get the written price, and take time to decide. Nothing obligates you to treat the same day. If the tooth is infected, the dentist will explain what waiting could mean so you can decide with full information. Our abscess page covers why infection in particular shouldn't be left for long.
